God Cries

Our Max was hurt this week playing ultimate Frisbee at youth group. The phone rang and it was my daughter saying Max was hurt. She was fighting back tears while she answered the list of questions I was berating her with. He had tripped over a well marked telephone pole in the yard and fell on his arm breaking it in two places. By the time he reached the hospital he had a dose of morphine in him already. I was rearranging his clothes and noticed they were wet. I did not notice it raining at home or at the hospital and I asked Max when did it start to rain. He told me that after he fell God felt his hurt and started to cry and the rain came down. Max is 15. I never thought of God crying and after that I day I look at different places in the Bible such as Jeremiah where God says my eyes overflow with tears, or in Psalms where it says God is brokenhearted. I am not sure that just because we are created in God's imagine means we cry because God cries. But I do believe God was with Max that moment and I do believe God used the rain to comfort and speak to Max.
